This is such a magnificent bay. So huge and the mountains so tall. The lighting on the hills never ceases to amaze me. This is the view looking under our sun awning.
As the tourist arrive from the cruise ship “Paul Gauguin”, the locals get ready to welcome them to shore. Too bad they don't do this for us regular cruisers! The shore boat has landed.
The savagely dressed man, blows the Trident Shell conch horn to announce their arrival to the rest of the island.
It takes big lungs to blow that horn!!
The drummers were pounding out the news and welcoming the tourists.
This guy was my favorite. I especially loved his belt and skull decoration! He looks quite fearsome!
The other dancers were much more casually dressed, using leaves to decorate their body. With smile like that, it is hard to be scared!
The women make a loud hailing noise before breaking into song while the dancers dance.
This guy is just a fisherman not even dressed up for the tourists. Check out his pig tusk necklace!!
Avatar and a few other boats anchored under the big Tiki on the hill.
Our friends Norma and Christian, on Mana Kai, this trimaran, sailed here also from La Paz, Baja, Mexico, but one year after us. So we decided it was time for a reunion Mexican dinner! Norma is going to re-teach me how to make tortillas. She came packing with this cool (or maybe I should say Hot) insulated bag with all the fixins including re-fried beans!
Norma showing how to mix the dough. I love having people come to my galley to teach me things!!
The dough is ready. It should have a consistency of about like this. Love her beautiful smile too!
The tortillas are cooking on my flat pan and the corn ones are done under the towel.
These are the wheat flour tortillas, flattened and ready to cook.
This was the Mexican dinner I had been dreaming about for the last year!! Yummy! Maybe now I can figure out how to cook it again on my own!
Christian, Norma, Shelly and Mike enjoying tacos a la Nuku Hiva!
I am a huge fan of the Polynesian Sailing Canoe and the logo of this island community was one of my favorites of all the places we have visited.
The Marquesas truly are at the end of the rainbow, both ends!!
Can you see the sheets of rain coming down below the rainbow? Hard to believe it is not raining on the boat!
The next day the sun came out again, showing the glow of the green hills.
And in case you missed what was behind the rainbow, this cliff dominates the center of the valley wall.
While walking about, I found these Bougainvillea flowers that matched my shirt perfectly!
From our angle, the big Tiki towers above the village of Taiohe.
The full moon pops out from behind the mountains making the clouds glow.
The clouds move much faster than the moon so the light keeps changing.
Now it is glowing on the water in front of us, looking lovely.....
Finally it is clear of clouds and reflecting a very bright sun.
