Rotoava Village

After spending the night at the Blue Lagoon, the next morning the sun rose directly behind the One Palm Motu. Wow!

We said goodbye to that special spot and headed back to town in the NE corner.

Studying the different chart plotters, it is ridiculous the difference between them. Chart shot #1 shows the screen on our Simrad shipboard plotter. We paid $300 for these charts!!

Chart shot #2 shows the screen of the Open CPN program on my computer. Charts are free for this program. It is a little better.

Chart shot #3 is from the Ipad Navionics app for SE Asia and Africa. Cost, $65!! Can you believe the difference in detail?

We got back to the village just in time for the Bastille day celebrations on July 14. The village had a band and music going for most of the day.

The flags were flying in the breeze. They represent French Polynesia, France, and Tuamotus.

They had food and game booths set up beside the soccer field.

The kids really enjoyed playing foozeball!

After a walk on the outter reef near town, I came back with this great collection of shells and that baby star fish! The purple things are spines from the Pencil Urchins.

A late afternoon rain squall created a beautiful rainbow over the village of Rotoava.

As part of the festivities they held a fishing tournament. Most of the town came out to see what was caught.

Here are all the fishing boats waiting their turn to show what they caught.

We said bye to Rob as he and Tiger Beetle were sailing on. So fun to visit him!

In the village of Rotoava someone painted this mural on their big water tank. It blends in nicely!

Going for a walk up the road, there sits Avatar at anchor.

There is a house that is decorated with many of the pearl buoy floats.

And they have a little bench, like a bus stop along the side of the road.

So many different kinds of floats hanging in a tree.

Another house had little coral heads decorating the tops of each of their fence posts.

This sign, welcoming people to the village of Rotoava, shows a drawing of the entire atoll of Fakarava. North being to the left and East being at the top. You can see both the North and South passes too.

And it is no problem to leave your bike just laying around.  No thieves here!

A red hibiscus flower in all her glory.
