The next day we followed Pitufa around the island and weaved our way through the deep parts of the reef and anchored in front of Herve and Valerie's house (parents of Ariki). They are having a Sunday beach barbecue party and several boats have shown up to participate.
Herve tends the fish he caught to serve us.
Their dog, who is named after the island, Teravai.
Ariki, a bit sandy from playing with the other kids.
Kids table, Keanu from Pakeatea, Sophie and Eric from Mango (the kids we hiked to Mt. Mokoto with) and Ariki.
Ariki talks Keanu into going with him out in his boat.
Now the “king” has all the other kids in his row boat! Just barely above the water!
Mike and Tom from Pakeatea enjoy the Sunday afternoon.
A big thunder head is moving in from Mangareava. We all hid under the tree leaves from the rain.
But it did not last long and bam the sun came out again!
Herve organizes a volleyball game.
Herve and Valerie. I think he is making a point, but she thinks it is quite funny! They were sweet and entertaining hosts!
Teravai entertains us by chasing her tail and catching it!
The sun is getting low in the West and a dollop of sunshine lights up a lone palm tree on a little rock with Mangareava in the distance.
What a spectacularly beautiful place to live!
The kids are playing soccer with the volleyball.
We make it back to the boat before the next rain squall hits. Can you see the rain dumping down in the distance?
The next day, we heard water running in the engine room when we went to start the diesel and found that the heat exchanger had corroded off the end cap. Thank God we had brought JB Weld from Tahiti! Mike cleaned the metal and epoxied it back together!
The inside of the heat exchanger where fresh water runs through those little copper tube holes and the salt water surrounds it and cools it and then goes out with the exhaust.
The finished product, ready to be reinstalled on the Isuzu.
A squall line is passing over the whole Gambier archipelago.
Heavy rain dumping in the distance.
But the rainbow always shows itself afterwards! This place is like a pot of gold!
